Before moving work to Vietnam
How much does a senior software engineer in Vietnam cost?
Through Bonsay, a senior engineer (6+ years, upper-intermediate English) costs from $4,400 a month all-in for product roles, and from $5,000–5,400 for specialists such as DevOps, AI/ML, data science and security. That gross price includes salary, 13th-month bonus, insurance, equipment, vetting and our management.
Is this cheap outsourcing?
No. We place senior, English-speaking engineers with production experience — the top of the local market, paid accordingly. The saving comes from a different cost base, not from cutting corners: typically 30–40% below Central Europe for the same seniority.
How do you set the price?
The engineer's full employer cost in Ho Chi Minh City plus a fixed 15% Bonsay fee for vetting, management, replacement and the EU contract. No recruitment fee, no deposit, nothing on top.
How much overlap with our working day will we get?
With standard hours, about 3–4 hours with Central Europe and 5–6 with Sydney. Engineers on European-aligned shifts give 5–6 hours with Europe. We agree the hours per role before the start.
Who owns the code and the IP?
You do, from day one. The contract is with an EU company, under EU law, with IP assignment and NDA.
Why not hire directly through an employer-of-record?
You can. Then you also run sourcing, vetting, retention, replacements and management yourself. We do those, and you keep one contract and one invoice.
What is the minimum engagement?
One engineer for one month. Most clients start with one or two roles and add people when the first ones prove themselves.
What work should stay in Europe?
Anything that needs daily face-to-face contact with your customers, on-site work, or full-day overlap with your team. We tell you on the first call which roles are not a good fit.
